We are excited to announce that next year we will celebrate 10 years of Classical:NEXT in a new host city: HANNOVER, Germany. From 17-20 May 2022 Classical:NEXT will welcome its delegates to the heart of Germany, to one of the UNESCO Cities of Music and one of the leading trade fair cities in Europe. Belit Onay, the Mayor of Hannover, welcomes this new cooperation (see videomessage on the left).

Hannover/Berlin: Classical:NEXT is exploring new grounds and will premiere from 17 to 20 May 2022 for the first time in Hannover, Germany. Returning to Germany also means returning to Classical:NEXT's roots, to the country with the strongest foundations in European classical music and where the success story began ten years ago, turning Classical:NEXT into the most important global gathering and network for classical and art music.

The decision to return to Germany involves many facets. On the one hand Germany is perceived as a "country of music" and a "classical music mecca", as Deutsche Welle writes. "Germany's unique musical landscape has created a global hub for classical music" and is therefore an appealing destination for the international Classical:NEXT community. On the other hand the reasons to return lie in the nature of the event, as Fabienne Krause, General Manager of Classical:NEXT, explains:

Germany is the country where Classical:NEXT started in 2012 - coming back now in 2022 is the perfect occasion to celebrate Classical:NEXT's 10th anniversary. After 10 years we want to take a moment and look at what we've achieved together with the Classical:NEXT community - growing to the most important global gathering and network for classical and art music. 10 years of sharing, learning, experimenting, networking, innovating, making new friends and business contacts, we are now looking forward not only to celebrating our 10th anniversary, but also to celebrating the first physical meeting of Classical:NEXT after a long time of postponing and cancelling.

Hannover is a globally renowned trade fair and congress location and since December 2014 also a UNESCO City of Music and therefore part of the international UNESCO Creative Cities Network. This is definitely a promising outlook for a network like the global art music scene that sets itself the goal of working together across borders and remaining in exchange.

Furthermore, future attendees will benefit from Hannover being an international and renowned music location. It is home to many internationally active ensembles like musica assoluta or Orchester im Treppenhaus (Classical:NEXT Showcase 2016), large orchestras like Staatsoper/Staatsorchester and the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and features a diverse and very vivid jazz scene. As the secret "choir capital" of Germany, it hosts, amongst others, the largest Europe-wide meeting place for the vocal music scene, the chor.com. Also renowned companies like Sennheiser, Duesenberg Guitars and Kling & Freitag, as well as international agencies and promoters like KD Schmid, IMG Artists or Hannover Concerts are headquartered in Hannover. The international acclaimed Joseph Joachim Violin Competition takes place bi-annually and has born successful laureates. As a city where education plays a key role, the internationally respected Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media trains students from all over the world and has brought forth numerous internationally renowned musicians such as Igor Levit.

As an interesting prospect for 2022 the international and cross-genre festival of modern arts, Kunstfestspiele Herrenhausen, will take place concurrently with Classical:NEXT and will turn Hannover into a global art music hub not to be missed.

These local assets will provide a perfect basis for welcoming the global Classical:NEXT community and will offer a variety of synergy effects. Delegates can expect a forward-looking Classical:NEXT programme combined with well-known and established formats and various networking possibilities. The programme elements will be presented in different venues through town. The Showcases will be hosted by Schauspielhaus Hannover, the Opening will be presented at Staatsoper Hannover and the Conference Sessions as well as the Expo at the Hannover Congress Centrum (HCC). Please check here for more information about the venues (additional locations to be announced).

We are thankful that the realisation of Classical:NEXT 2022 is supported by the city of Hannover/Kulturbüro.
