Classical:NEXT at Reeperbahn Festival

MAthias Arfmann and Hamburger Sinfoniker at Reeperbahn Festival

presenting: The State of Modern Classical

Come out of your niches! We are proud to announce Classical:NEXT will team up with Reeperbahn Festival and Conference this week. Reeperbahn festival is Germany's biggest showcase platform with about 32,000 visitors and features a rich conference programme including a fine classical and contemporary music section, which we are a part of this year, with a panel on the future of classical music radio as well as a reception together with some of other classical players as prominent as: Sony Classical, Bosworth Music, Warner Classics, ProArte, Naxos, Neue Meister, Deutsche Grammophon.

We will follow up on things already discussed in Rotterdam at Classical:NEXT 2016 (where we hosted a public talk with Alan Davey from BBC's Radio 3 and WQXR's Graham Parker), and we asked a few additional international radio professionals on their input for our session this Thursday. Panel members are Daniel Ross (online content masters classicfm.com), Markus Kühn (indie radio station FluxFM), Mischa Kreiskott (German public radio NDR Kultur) and Juliane Reil (free but expert web radio ByteFM), moderated by Classical:NEXT's Paul Bräuer. Classical:NEXT's Fabienne Krause will also be in attendance.

In addition to our session, Reeperbahn Festival's classical programme “The State Of Modern Classical Music” will feature music showcases in Hamburg's Resonanzraum, the home of Classical:NEXT Innovation Award winner Ensemble Resonanz - (it sort of all comes together at Hamburg this September!).
Other highlights include a rework of Ballet Classics by Matthias Arfmann with the Hamburg Symphonic, a book presentation by Berthold Seliger, who is refreshingly knowledgeable in both the music business and cultural politics as well as a conference on digital platforms and the Neue Meister and Erased Tapes (Classical:NEXT Innovation Award runner-up!) label night.
