From 17 to 20 May 2022, Classical:NEXT will welcome the global art music community to Hannover and turn the heart of Germany into a vibrant music hub. It's not only our premiere in a new host city, but also Classical:NEXT's 10th anniversary that makes this year's edition special.

Classical:NEXT 2022: Reshaping the future
The future of classical and art music has always been the heart and mission of Classical:NEXT. This year, the programme proposals went even further. The questions of how we want to cohabit in this world and how we achieve this in a more sustainable and inclusive way seem to be the current leading spirit of the global art music community. Compared to past editions, it is striking that the Classical:NEXT programme will reinforce and deepen questions on social issues and a sustainable music ecosystem. Is this tendency an outcome of the challenging past two years, creating a sharpened socio-political consciousness, or does it rather reflect how existential the situation has become for many of us? Either way, it shows one thing for sure: the will to plant seeds for a positive change is stronger than ever.
With this spirit in mind, we also want to reflect on 10 years of Classical:NEXT, to review what we have achieved as a global community and at the same time look ahead and be excited to contribute to what the classical and art music form is and can be in the future.
