WOMEX Information - Bank Holidays in Hungary

As we're about to kick off with our Nightime Film and Showcase Programmes here in Budapest, it is useful to remember that that Friday, 23 October and Saturday, 24 October are bank holidays in Hungary. Shops, public institutions and some restaurants will be closed. Most museums will be open (please check museum websites for more detailed information).

Transport: holiday schedules will be in effect on Friday 23, so public transport is operational, but less frequent than usual. However, tram line 2 will have extended service during WOMEX, so transport all along the Pest side, between Bálna and Müpa Budapest - Palace of Arts, will be fast and easy. The boat service between the Pest side and A38 Ship is also unaffected by the holiday schedule: this will run every 15 minutes between 23:00 - 4:00 as on every other WOMEX day.

Shops and restaurants: will be closed on Friday, 23 October. Our local partners, Hangvető, have sought out two grocery stores and one petrol station where you will be able to find some essentials. You can find them on this map. Restaurants on Ráday utca in the 9th district will most likely be open. Cigarettes may only be purchased from state-monopoly tobacco stores (on any day), or Nemzeti Dohánybolt - these are also marked on the map.

We will provide regular updates about what these holidays might affect. Stay tuned to our newsletter and be sure to check our Facebook event page and Twitter account for current information.
