AFRICAN SUITE:
Ludovico Einaudi, piano;
Ballaké Sissoko, kora.
“African suite” is a journey in the
heart of Africa.
Ballaké Sissoko and Ludovico
Einaudi come together again after
having met in Italy in the summer
2002 (Festival di Villa Arconati -
Milan, Festa della Musica – Ferrara).
In January 2003 they take part into
the “Festival au Desert”, in
Essakane, near Timbuctu (Mali),
where they play in front of an
audience basically composed of
Tuaregs, in the middle of the dunes.
A live track of the concert they did, will
be included into the compilation of
the Festival.
The Festival is a very powerful
experience, a real cultural exchange
and a great source of inspiration. In
fact they meet again in Italy where
they work on a duo project that leads
to the soon coming out album:
Tomboctou.
Tomboctou is the meeting of two
artists coming from different faraway
lands and cultures through music:
they share the same minimal taste
and refined touch.
Ludovico’s piano and the kora of
Ballaké melt in harmonies that go
back to the vastness of the desert,
the drought of the Sahel and the
calm flow of the Niger river.
