A master of tar and classical Persian art music, composer and performance artist, Elshan Ghasimi works at the confluence of tradition and modernity, the first musician to reinterpret the ancient repertoire of classical Persian music, radif, through the inspirational prism of poetry and conceptual art. Ghasimi entered the Tehran Conservatory of Music at the age of nine and continued her studies in Baku, studying the Caucasian Tar and Mugam repertoire of Azerbaijani classical music. At 17, she became the youngest member of the Iranian National Orchestra. Since 2016 Ghasimi lives in Berlin, where she composes and performs as a soloist and with ensembles such as Concerto Köln.
