ÄKA - Free voices of forest is an intercultural adventure whose protagonists are, on the one hand, the Aka pygmies of the Ndima Ensemble, inhabitants of the equatorial forest of Congo-Brazzaville, Sorel Eta, Bantu ethnologist, manager and founder of Ndima, and, on the other hand, three French Occitans named Leïla Martial, Eric Perez and Rémi Leclerc.
It is an unprecedented meeting between the Ndima group, virtuoso of the ancestral vocal repertoire of the Pygmy Aka, and European artists with an abundant imagination, experienced in improvisation. This multidimensional epic spans several years. It is the subject of the creation of a show, tours carried out in France and the Congo near the indigenous populations, a feature documentary film directed by Yvan Schreck. An upcoming album, recorded live, will bring together recordings made during the spring 2022 tour in France. Here, the voice is at the center of the exploration and becomes the instrument of all possibilities.
It is a journey without words, at the heart of human nature. There is, in the meeting of these two worlds, the advent of a new community of sounds.
