Musica 90

Musica 90 was born in 1990 and based in Torino (Italy), with the aim of promoting innovative and high quality contemporary music in Italy, with a close look both on new musical scenes and traditional sonorities from all over the world.

The main activities of the association consist in organising concerts and big musical events, conceiving and co-ordinating musical productions, manage and book Italian and foreign bands and musical projects.

The oldest and most popular of the events we run, is called "Dalle Nuove Musiche al Suono Mondiale" and consists in annual musical festival divided in two sections - Autumn and Spring – that for 20 years now, has been taking to Torino approximately twenty concerts per year, attended by a public of 10.000 persons per edition.

The concerts propose different kinds of artists and music, chosen among the most interesting and up to date projects around the world: from ethnic music to electronic, from new jazz to modern classic.

From 1997 to 2000 Musica 90 was part of Pellerossa Festival - big musical event which animated for two weeks every year the Summer nights of Torino with great rock and pop concerts together with big composers and stars of World Music. Musica 90 took part to the adventure by running the World Music and big composers brunch of the program.



Besides this major ones, Musica 90 runs some newly born festivals.

In 2000 started ArtLive - International Festival of Contamination conceived with the attempt to present a sample of the research within contamination among the arts experienced in their live dimension. Three days of live no-stop, throughout performances, video, music, fashion, conferences: high level artistic experiences that most reflect themes and sensibility of a mutating society.



Musica 90 was then involved starting from 2001, in the Summer festival Sentinelle delle Alpi: a triennial festival realized through the European Union founds of an Interreg project which intended to restore and give a new life and meaning to some ancient military fortresses on the French and Italian Alps. A calendar of twenty events from theathre to video arts and music was commissioned to different Associations; Musica 90 took in charge the musical part of it, presenting eight different productions.



From 2001 to 2008 wthe association organised the festival Torino World Music Meeting dedicated to world music.


Among the big events we mentioned Slow Night, New Year's Eve 2008-2009 in Torino, and the activities - Musica a Corte, Ambienti digitali...- in Reggia di Venaria Reale (To).


From 2002 the Association developed educational projects, i.e. Viaggio guidato fra le musiche e le culture giovanili, TorinoJazzLab – Orchestra Laboratorio Permanente del Piemonte, Maestri di dialogo.

From 2006 Musica 90 organised Music Planet, a ethnomusical film festival in Torino.
