groove& are a three-woman percussion ensemble trailblazing what they call new dimension Gugak sounds. Gugak is an umbrella term covering all great Korean national music and dance traditions from court music or folk song, to shamanistic ritual or theatre, and groove& are at the forefront of a new generation of Korean musicians fusing multiple aspects of these traditions with a contemporary urban consciousness. groove& frame their approach as 'percussion's meaningful rebellion; female percussionists are rare in Gugak traditions, and they activate their diverse range of instruments to add their ancient voices to the pulsing beats of the 21st century. With performance pieces based around themes they create, through intricate arrangement and improvisation, a delicate yet sensuous sound that has seen them selected for major festivals such as Seoul Music Week and Journey to Korean Music.
