Trefpunt started the Ghent Festivities in 1970 under the hippie impulse of sculptor, singer and 'enfant terrible' Walter De Buck. It grew out to be one of the biggest city festivals in Europe, with over 1.7 million visitors in 10 days in 2024.
Trefpunt hosts the central stage at St. Jacobs church (5000 people), and 5 stages in the Baudelo park with music varying from folk to jazz, pop to hiphop, rock to worldmusic. With over 300 activities in 10 days and a big emphasis on artistic quality, diversity and a progressive approach towards society and the powers that be, Trefpunt is the soul of a rebellious city of music.
Trefpunt organises during the festival and throughout the year mainly concerts, but also circus and streettheatre, debates about society and culture, visual arts expositions (in the pop up space Bar Edward), and is the leading partner of the Sounds Of Europe project, a collaboration between 13 European festivals supported by Creative Europe
